Tsvirkunova Svetlana

Tsvirkunova was born in Leningrad, USSR in 1968, where prior to attending a mathematics and physics school, she became heavily involved in the arts and went on to study in the infamous Herzen academy. Her acceptance into the tight artistic circle of Gennady Zubkov, who was also heavily involved in the academic side of art in the university at the time had an extensive impact upon her works. That period of 1997 onwards saw Tsvirkunova’s involvement of study of and color in the Zubkov’s studio. Zubkov’s full submersion into the way in which physical forms should be represented on canvas, as well as his oeuvre and comprehension of color had a great impact on the student Tsvirkunova. Through a careful comparison of both of their works, as are present within the galleries, it becomes quickly perceptible how one influenced the other.

Evidently, having graduated, Tsvirkunova went on to become a member of the Artist’s Union of Russia. Nonetheless, this is not the only artistic guild of which she is a part of. In addition to this, she is also an honorary associate of the creative artists union (IFA) of Russia, which helps support the artistic community with the aid of the cultural ministry as well other publicly and privately owned funds.

Also, Tsvirkunova is also a representative of the ‘Free Culture’ society of Russia, which reinforces rudimentary connections between the artists and the society they live in. Hence, they support various projects which aim to educate and consult private individuals in the world of contemporary Russian art. Additionally, Tsvirkunova is also an affiliate of the art group ‘The 17th of April’ as well as ‘Form + Colour’, which were both instigated and maintained by Gennady Zubkov.

Tsvirkunova is currently living and working in Saint-Petersburg, Russia.
