Gromov Aleksey

Blindfolded is the first personal exhibition of a young Saint Petersburg artist Aleksey Gromov. He graduated from Shtiglitz Academy of Art & Design and studied and worked at Berlin Kunsthochschule. Aleksey participated in various group exhibitions in Russia, Finland and Germany. Blindfolded will consist of 9 sculptures and 6 paintings and will also include author’s moodboard catalogue.

“In a moment of awareness of our probable future, just like in a moment of knowing our past, we become more mature. Fear of what is ahead in space and time is often overpowered by inquisitiveness and curiosity for knowledge. Value of observation is not in capturing of what is happening, but also in participation in a role of onlooker. In kids’ paintings crossed out eyes symbolise fear of something and sometimes absence. When we extend beyond the boundaries of "knowledge comfort-zone" we shift our position to the opposite one. Awareness of our ignorance gives us the incentive to search for the answers. Children do not need to be in such comfort-zone; otherwise, their psycho-emotional development will stop. When a growing human being is attacked by the flow of formed images, value systems and piles of manifests, that contradict each other, he or she does not have a chance to be that onlooker. An eye is a symbol of foreseeable horizon of our knowledge. This moment for us is nothing but the “blind game” within a system of axes and dimensions that we impose upon ourselves. When we put a barrier between an onlooker and outward things, we lose ourselves to everything, whereas that everything moves to our inside world where we can put our own colours, shapes and spaces”.
