Provotorov Dmitry

Provotorov was born in Leningrad, modern day St. Petersburg in 1975. From a relatively young age, Provotorov was always interested in still lifes and photographic subject-matter, which has started exploring on the level of photography from 1999 onwards. This interest spurred him on to enrolling at the Saint Petersburg State University of Cinema and Television. More precisely, Provotorov was engaged in the cinematographic faculty.

During his work throughout his degree, Provotorov was also recruited on small and large cinematic endeavors and participated in the making of numerous state and private films. This pragmatic undertaking allowed Provotorov not only to experience the productive nature of film but also the way in which the character is influenced by his surroundings and how the latter can impact his or her motion and development on film.

Despite having started out in multi-colored photography and cultivating some experience in this particular photographic field, Provotorov went on to focus more expressly on black and white photography. This transition allowed him to fully grasp the way in which form and boundary of subject matter can be explored when color is not present. Black and white photography not only is incredibly versatile in the fact that it does not offer any distractions, but also due to the subtlety of tones, which are more tangible within this type of photography. Furthermore, black and white photography also allows the viewer to be let in on a more stylistically simple, but just as conceptually complex work than in colored photography. Furthermore, Provotorov has also been working on rendering in computer graphics as well as experimental hand printing.

Provotorov is currently living working in St. Petersburg.
